Though, Organizational Psychology is a deep rooted concept, but in simple terms it involves the application of various psychological principles in the work arena. It deals with human interaction in the workplace and how interaction can be done in a better manner to increase work efficiency, communication and overall functioning of any organization.

The role of organization psychologists is to design activities and develop schedules that enable better social interaction between people inside the organization. They develop training principles and procedures, procedures for selection and also design appraisal systems through which interaction inside the organization can be enhanced. Usually organizations hire organizational psychologists for the tackling problems related to employee turnover and morale. They also hire them to help them implement solutions that can address the employee training and selection.

Organizational psychologists teach management about how to select the right person for a particular job requirement and also set out the criteria through which they can be promoted. As part of their activities they have to conduct a lot of research and also come up with the right statistics so that their point can be actually implemented.

They develop tests which assess employee skills and ascertain their problem solving abilities for the purpose of improving office efficiency. These tests will not just ascertain an employees skills, but also their mental abilities and emotional strengths. They will check if the employee shows traits that are associated with positive employment values. The aim in using these tests is not just to hire the right personnel, but to also ensure that those who are hired are not ones who are likely to quit in the future. Beyond the process of effective hiring, organizational psychologists are also known to develop coaching tolls that will help to improve relationships between coworkers and also to help them cope with situations that are stressful.
